NOMOS Glashütte builds mechanical watches in a small town in Saxony. Nomos at Work looked at a question outside the watch world: what does work mean today, and what will it mean tomorrow? Each story asked about success, vision and status, told from the places where people work and live.
Friends of Friends developed the editorial concept and led the research. FvF Productions sourced the protagonists from its network and developed the video narrative. Three portraits in three cities, two of them also as films.
Ansgar Oberholz opened St. Oberholz at Rosenthaler Platz in 2005. It was the first cafe in Berlin built around freelancers, founders and their laptops. SoundCloud and HelloFresh started at its tables. He later co-founded the Institut für Neue Arbeit and advises companies on how they work.
The film and the photo story follow him through Mitte. The cafe and its coworking floors, a quiet garrison cemetery, a fab lab and the office of Moebel Horzon.

New work can also happen on a small scale.
Tariq Dixon co-founded TRNK, an online shop for home design, with Nick Nemechek. Both had worked as menswear buyers. Their showroom in NoHo is set up like an apartment and doubles as the office.
The episode was shot in New York. The crew filmed at his Brooklyn apartment, the showroom and the studio of a ceramicist who makes pieces for TRNK. The photo story ran in November 2017, the film followed in February 2018.

Michael Martin is a managing partner at Code and Theory and leads its West Coast office. The agency designs publishing platforms for media companies such as Bloomberg, The Verge and the BBC.
The San Francisco portrait ran as a photo story. It moves from his apartment in Jackson Square through Chinatown to the agency office on Maiden Lane.

There’s no such thing as a digital strategy; it’s just strategy.
Three portraits of people who shape how work looks today. A coworking pioneer, a home design founder and an agency partner.
The stories ran on Friends of Friends in English and German between October 2017 and February 2018. FvF Productions directed and shot both films.
